Day 10: September 22, 2026 (Oban - Glencoe - Glasgow)
Oban - Glencoe - Glasgow
Our wonderous journey from Oban to Glasgow began at 10 am on a rainy day. We travelled in two separate little tour buses, and our tour guide and bus driver Dave was very well informed about Scotland and even wore a kilt. He took us to many interesting places along our journey. We really loved the bus. It was cozy and the bus driver even gave us the choice to play our own music. Through his extroverted manners and witty jokes, he felt more like a friend than a bus driver.
Our first stop was the Castle Stalker on which the last scene of the Monty Python movie “The Holy Grail” was filmed. If you haven’t seen this film, we strongly recommend it. Despite the rainy weather we went outside and took mystical photos through the mysterious mist.
Then we had our lunch break in Glen Coe, a Scottish natural reserve with a rich history. It is the site of an ancient super volcano and a caldera collapse. Our bus driver also told us about the massacre of the MacDonald clan that used to live there that got murdered by the English.
Later after our break we took many little stops in the beautiful highlands, which looked particularly magical and mystical from the misty weather.
One of them was a little hike path which we climbed up and got a wonderful view from high up. Another was a waterfall by which another Monty Python scene was filmed. Then there was also a river where you could apparently find gold and a different river and Glen Etive where a scene from the James Bond movie “Skyfall” was filmed.
We learned a lot about peat lands and how their acidity makes it harder or even unable for some trees to grow in those environments. Our bus driver told us that they wanted to build wind turbines there but because the peat takes up so much CO2 the removal of said peat, to build the wind-turbines, would expose so much CO2 that the wind turbines would need to operate for 50 years to make up for it.
At another stop some saw handsome huggable hairy humongous highland cows.

Towards the end, already in Glasgow we stopped near a clock where the new Spider-Man movie and a Batman movie were filmed.

After a long and interesting journey, we finally arrived in Glasgow. It was sad when we had to say goodbye to the bus driver Dave. We are still grieving. We logged into our Yotel rooms, checked out our bathtub-shaped beds while others trained hardcore calisthenics at the gym and finished the day with a dinner at the food court.
