Day 3: September 15, 2026 (National Museum of Scotland and Ceilidh)
National Museum of Scotland and Ceilidh
We started our day at 9.30 am and made our way to the National Museum of Scottland. First, we explored the section about the geological history of Scottland. We did a quiz and took a selfie with the first cloned mammal, the sheep Dolly.
Then, we all had our individual lunches and some of us went to Nando’s, where we were able to experience the British idea of South African cuisine.
In the early afternoon we returned to the museum and took a look at the Scottish history from the 18th century up until today. We learned about Scottland’s industrialization, her part in the two world wars and the political and economic situation after the wars.
After our visit in the national museum we had our free afternoon, which we used to go to the mall, go to bookshops, explore the city, prepare our school tasks and get ready for the evening, as then would come the highlight of the day: our first ever Ceilidh dance.
The Ceilidh dance is a traditional Scottish social ball dance with multiple partners at a time. It involves a lot of jumping, twirling, spinning and sweating. We were all exhausted and sweaty at the end, but our faces hurt from all the smiling and laughing.
