Day 6: September 18, 2026 (Edinburgh - Oban)
Edinburgh - Oban
Our Journey started with a train ride at 11:15 from Edinburgh Waverly towards our next travel destination, Oban. Most of us were still exhausted from yesterday’s night packing, this morning’s hectic last minute cleaning of the luxurious apartments we got the chance to experience. Though, to be honest, the apartments didn’t need much cleaning.
We first hopped on a slow regional train that rolled us all the way to Glasgow, a “short” one hour trip. After a speedy change of trains we left the city again and headed towards Oban. The train was packed when we boarded and every seat was booked. Once departed the Scottish landscape, the evergreen rolling hills and small villages flew past us, as some of us slept while others ate what we had bought ourselves at Tesco the night before. That store has been a lifesaver so far. Many also socialized through talking or playing games.
The train ride to Oban was meant to last for three hours but we ended up getting there a bit later than planned. It was raining. Not pouring, yet, but enough to cover us all in a film of water and slowly seep into our clothes.
Oban isn’t really big, but as we walked along the coastline, we could see that it must be a cute little town on sunny days. There were boats in the harbour, a few people hurrying from one shop to the other to avoid the rain and lots of locals who didn’t seem to mind the rain as much as we did.In the evening, many of us stayed at home, made food in the communal kitchen of our youth hostel, watched movies or simply relaxed.
