Day 11: September 23, 2026 (The History of Glasgow)

Bild
The History of Glasgow (by Angelina & Lhadon) This morning we were able to eat breakfast at the hotel as it was included. We used this opportunity to its fullest as it provided us with energy to walk through Glasgow. We left the hotel in a hurry to look at a Tenement House that was preserved and is now a museum. Tenement Houses are apartments that people rented back in the days in Scotland.  We were able to see the apartment of Miss Agnes Toward. She moved there with her mother and lived in the building for 54 years.  The apartment was rather stylish and clean even though they hadn’t much space. Seeing how it looked back then made it much easier to comprehend how living there must have been.  After the visit, we ate lunch individually.    In the afternoon, three students introduced us  to the Willow Tea Rooms. From there we went to the Gallery of Modern Arts where we again listened tona presentation about the tabacco lords that used to live there. ...

Day 10: September 22, 2026 (Oban - Glencoe - Glasgow)

Oban - Glencoe - Glasgow (by Kaja & Ghizmo) Our wonderous journey from Oban to Glasgow began at 10 am on a rainy day. We travelled in two separate little tour buses, and our tour guide and bus driver Dave was very well informed about Scotland and even wore a kilt. He took us to many interesting places along our journey. We really loved the bus. It was cozy and the bus driver even gave us the choice to play our own music. Through his extroverted manners and witty jokes, he felt more like a friend than a bus driver.  Our first stop was the Castle Stalker on which the last scene of the Monty Python movie “The Holy Grail” was filmed. If you haven’t seen this film, we strongly recommend it. Despite the rainy weather we went outside and took mystical photos through the mysterious mist.   Then we had our lunch break in Glen Coe, a Scottish natural reserve with a rich history. It is the site of an ancient super volcano and a caldera collapse. Our bus driver also told us about th...

Day 9: September 21, 2026 (A Tour to the Isle of Staffa)

A Tour to the Isle of Staffa (by Alexandra & Sophie) The air is cold and fog settles over  the bay as we walk towards the port of Oban. We’re up a little earlier than yesterday, the ferry leaves at 10AM. The waiting room of the Ferry is packed, cancelled tours have been moved to today and many have taken the chance to make up for the missed day. We are among them. Americans to our left, Germans to the right, it’s a mix of languages. We board and settle in a booth to put down our bags. Then, we walk onto the deck, taking in the view as we leave port and go towards our first destination: the island of Mull. The ride there is calm, the breeze smells like salt and wind and even though we can’t see much of the landscapes surrounding us, the low clouds give it that typical look one would expect of Scotland. We travel by bus, taking in the beautiful sights like mountains, pine trees, cows, sheep, deer and many more. The bus is loud, the AI lady on the speaker talks for the entirety of...

Day 8: September 20, 2026 (Oban and Whisky)

Bild
Oban and Whisky (by Lilly & Marta) This morning started a bit hectic, since some of us had to check out of our rooms by 10am. We all got up, some of us packed our bags and afterwards we had breakfast together. Afterwards the first group of our class made its way to the Oban Whisky Distillery. There we had the opportunity to learn how whisky is made and some of us could even try it. The rest of the afternoon we had some free time, which everybody spent individually. Our group went to the local bookshop and got some coffee. In the evening we all made our way to the Pizzeria at the pier, but one of us almost did not make it, because he slept through all his alarms so we had to knock on his window for a very long time. Finally, we all arrived at the restaurant and there we had a really tasty dinner. After the delicious desert we were all very full and content.
